The Origins of Silver.

Silver’s story runs parallel to civilisation itself. From ancient Near Eastern trade to the Roman Empire’s iconic denarius, silver was the foundation of early currency systems.

During the Spanish conquest of the Americas, vast quantities of silver were mined and shipped to Europe, fueling expansion and establishing silver as a key global asset. Throughout history, silver has been prized not just for its beauty, but for its accessibility and value.

Introducing silver bullions.

Gold bullion comes in two main forms: bars and coins. Both are valued for their purity, weight, and liquidity. At Golden Dram, we focus on premium gold bullion coins, recognised globally, easy to store, and simple to trade.

These coins are typically minted in weights such as 1oz and are struck with designs that enhance both their recognition and collectability.

Tax on Silver

Similiar to Gold, Where you buy and sell Silver makes a massive difference to your wallet, thanks to very different tax rules around the world.

Here is a quick look at how things work across South Africa, the UK, and our Off Shore vaulting option:

  • Value Added Tax (VAT): In the UK, you pay the standard 20% VAT on physical silver bars and coins for domestic delivery. In South Africa, silver does not get the same exemptions as gold; you pay 15% VAT on all physical silver purchases, including Silver Krugerrands and imported bars.
  • Capital Gains Tax (CGT): The UK treats its own legal tender silver coins (like the Silver Britannia) as completely tax-free when sold. However, South Africa charges CGT and also uses a worldwide tax system. If you are a SA tax resident, you must declare and pay CGT to SARS on profits from selling silver anywhere in the world, even if you sold it in SA or abroad.
  • Mauritius (Freeport Advantage): While physical silver normally attracts the standard 15% VAT in Mauritius, if you buy and vault silver within the Mauritius Freeport Zone, transactions qualify for a 0% VAT rate.

Why silver bullions?

Quiet strength. Global demand.

Silver balances its role as a precious metal with vital industrial use, powering solar, tech, and medicine. Accessible, undervalued, and increasingly essential, silver bullions offer a smart, tangible hold in a fast-evolving market.

Accessible Entry Point

Silver’s affordability makes it ideal for building tangible wealth without a high capital outlay—perfect for both new and seasoned investors.

Inflation Protection

As currencies fluctuate, silver holds firm. Its long history as a store of value makes it a reliable shield during economic shifts.

Portfolio Diversification

Silver moves differently than stocks or bonds. It helps balance risk, especially in periods of volatility.

Rising Industrial Demand

From solar energy to tech, silver is in everything. That industrial need drives steady, long-term demand.

Safe Haven Appeal

In turbulent markets, silver offers calm. Its physical presence and global acceptance make it a secure fallback.

Finite Supply

Most silver is mined incidentally, meaning supply can’t scale as quickly as demand, supporting future price strength.
