Gold Bullions

The golden standard.

A timeless asset, built for the future.

Gold has long been recognised as one of the world’s most enduring stores of wealth. Valued across civilisations and throughout history, it has come to symbolise stability, security, and lasting value.

At Golden Dram, we provide access to premium gold bullion, including Gold Krugerrands, British Britannias, and gold bars. Clients can choose secure delivery in the UK or South Africa, or opt for offshore vaulted storage in USD, helping to preserve wealth while reducing exposure to currency fluctuations.

These tangible assets are designed for those who take a long-term view, protecting and growing their wealth with confidence and purpose

The History

Gold’s story stretches back over 5,000 years. From the riverbeds of Mesopotamia to the tombs of ancient Egypt, it was valued not just for its beauty, but for its permanence. Egyptians saw it as the “flesh of the gods,” while Greeks and Romans minted it into currency that fuelled early trade and empire.

By 600 BC, gold coins were being used as currency by the Lydians, establishing gold’s role as both medium of exchange and symbol of prestige. Fast forward to the 19th century, and gold became the backbone of economic systems through the Gold Standard—linking national currencies to gold reserves and reinforcing trust in value.

Tax on Gold

Where you buy and sell makes a massive difference to your wallet, thanks to very different tax rules around the world.

Here is a quick look at how things work across South Africa, the UK, and our Off Shore vaulting option:

  • Value Added Tax (VAT): In the UK you pay 0% VAT on investment-grade gold bars and coins. South Africa you pay 0% on Krugerrands, but is much stricter, slapping a standard 15% VAT on all gold bars and foreign coins.
  • Capital Gains Tax (CGT): The UK treats its own legal tender gold coins (like Gold Britannia) as completely tax-free when sold. However, South Africa uses a worldwide tax system. If you are a SA tax resident, you must declare and pay CGT to SARS on profits from selling gold anywhere in the world, even if you sold it in SA or abroad.
